New Firewire Models in Stock

We are always getting in new boards from our friends down coast at Firewire surfboards. Included are some brand new models like the Creeper and the Greedy Beaver which are coming from some very interesting places.  Check out the details on these boards and see what sizes are available.

The Creeper is shaped by the style master himself; Mr. Rob Machado.  ‘Chado’ has created a low entry rocker, 70’s inspired board coupled with a curvy fuller outline in the tail to allow quick direction changes yet still provide effortless gliding. Whether you are driving off the bottom or setting some serious high lines, you’ll be sure to do so with Rob’s nonchalant style. Works well in 3-6ft waves. These boards are selling fast!

FirewireGREEDYBREAVERThe Greedy Beaver has a real shortboard feel with a compressed longboard outline, a true crossover board with midlength retro glide and shortboard maneuverability. Put it on rail while engaging the single to double concave, step on the rounded pin and it surfs like a shortboard in the pocket. Or take advantage of the single to double concave and large planing surface to trim effortlessly over dead sections. The beveled rail reduces the overall thickness, adding performance including rapid direction changes. Raise your wave count every session with the paddle power of the Greedy Beaver while turning on a dime as you thread your way through the pack.  Works in 2-6ft surf.

The Carbo-Hydro is an updated version of the Baked Potato groveler board. The new nose and tail increases the drive of the board without compromising the wide loose tail. The bottom is an updated single concave under the front foot that flows into a heavy double barrel concave through the fins. The bottom contours and rocker along with the fin location is key in designs like this. The Carbo-Hydro has smooth transitions with those three components working together towards the common goal of speed and maneuverability. The Carbo-Hydro is destined to fly in a wide range of surf especially surf that is on the smaller side.

The Next Step up from your short board, this is a great board to have if you like bigger waves than your shorty can handle, whether just down the road or on your dream surf trip. It surfs loose, like a short board, but has the extra paddle-power and hold you need in solid surf. Proven worldwide by the best surfers, at places like Pipeline, Mainland Mexico, Tahiti, Fiji and Western Australia. We recommend that you go anywhere from 2″ to 8″ up from your short board, and add at least 1/8″ of thickness (more as you go longer) to help get in early. It has a lot of rocker for making steep drops, a touch of extra thickness through the nose for paddle power, and refined rails to give you control where you need it most, in the barrel. The 5 fin option offers maximum versatility. This board is what you need if you want to go bigger!

FST (Future Shape Technology) – relies primarily on the PARABOLIC Balsa Rail to control flex while the high density aerospace composite vacuumed to both the top and bottom decks provides significant impact strength, and is stronger than a traditional PU surfboard.

TT (TimberTek) – The combination of a lightweight EPS core, sustainably-grown Paulownia wood deck skins, Firewire’s proprietary parabolic rail construction, and an Entropy bio-resin hot coat yield an extremely lightweight, durable surfboard with ALL of the high performance flex characteristics of Firewire’s existing technologies.

THE CORNICE proves that the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts. It combines Firewire’s board building expertise with design collaborator Dan Mann and Eduardo Cenzano from Trinity Technologies interpretation of an effective side-cut design for surfing. The side cut shifts volume from the middle of the board towards the tail, leading to the most effective area in contact with the water. The board literally displaces less water, leading to minimal friction and increased speed that is noticeable. Dan Mann explains further, “with such a narrow design, it takes less force and time to tip the board on its rail. That fast twitch sensitivity, especially on late drops or hollow waves, is where you feel the side cut really engage, and the wide tail still allows for speed in the flats”.
The Firewire crew has been riding THE CORNICE in a wide variety of conditions, and they’re absolutely convinced that the design has a legitimate place alongside other high performance designs in the market today. Check out the Cornice in action:

THE SPARTAN maintains drive and speed through flatter sections. The single concave throughout adds to the speed and the subtle hip in the tail makes it easy to redirect. The slightly pulled in tail gives bite and drive through turns, and true to Michel Bourez’s style, THE SPARTAN loves big carves in powerful waves, but still feels great in weaker surf. A great board for everyday sessions in all kinds of waves. Available in FST construction.

The Vader represents the current pinnacle of Daniel ‘Tomo’ Thomson’s Modern Planing Hull (MPH) Vision. Dan describes the Vader as a Mind Surfing Machine, which reacts instantaneously to desired directional changes with incredible bursts of speed. Controlled, drawn out carves and radical tight angle snaps are achievable with an effortless and intuitive shift in a surfer’s weight. In addition, paddle power and generally usability have been increased with a larger volume distribution throughout comparative to the Vanguard, which encourages surfers to ride the Vader even shorter than previously considered functional.
Versatility …. The Vader ticks all the boxes and is a stand out performer from waist high to double overhead, offering a natural Quad-fin option which creates significantly increased speed in weaker conditions, or switch to a Tri-Fin for a high-speed surgical attack when the waves demand additional control. Experience the Future of High Performance Surfing!

Dan Mann has struck gold again, Yukon Gold. The BAKED POTATO offers the same small wave performance as the SWEET POTATO with a few subtle design adjustments. The nose is pulled in slightly and some of the rail volume has been removed to allow for even faster rail to rail transfers. The BAKED POTATO has the same aggressive double concaves and ‘V-spline’ running down the center of the board which allows the board to get up on the rail much faster than the overall design would indicate. Primarily designed for smaller, weaker conditions, the BAKED POTATO will surprise you by its performance characteristics, and how the quad fins set further back and closer to the rail than usual, allow the board to hold with- out sliding, even in larger surf. Get cooking on a BAKED POTATO. Available in golden brown Timber Tek.

The EVO (Evolution) is a new take on the MPH design, utilizing softer features and more outline curve to encourage a smoother transitions and a more  ‘in the pocket’ line of attack. A wider central wide point comparative to the Vader, the EVO should be considered favorable to smaller weaker waves, however like most Tomo MPH Designs , the EVO will still be quite functional in overhead waves conditions.
Maintaining  an almost symmetrical outline and a completely unique and highly innovative “Double inside single concave into split quad concave” planing hull, The EVO feels as if it’s almost ‘levitating’ on the water! Yet once on rail,  it has a precise rail sensitivity and hold. The EVO should be ridden as short as possible with user friendly volumes packed into the shortest MPH sizings yet offered by Tomo.

The Slab (an older model but lots more in stock) by Pyzel represents John John Florence‘s ideas refined into his perfect free surfing model. John John wanted 3 inches off the nose of his normal shortboard and an increased tail rocker. This resulted in a fuller nose, fatter top section and an extremely high performance fun board that goes well in a range of conditions.

The PyzAlien (another older model but very popular) is a great all- around performance board, designed to keep speed and flow in weaker conditions, while feeling lively and loose in all types of waves. The fuller outline, wider tail and slightly wider, flatter nose help to produce speed and drive, and make it a fast, easy paddler.
It has a lot of curve through the tail rocker, and that, combined with the bottoms contours of single/double concave running into a nice bit of VEE off the tail keep snappy yet controlled when you tip it onto the rail. A great board for a wide range of waves and conditions, the PyzAlien feels just as good in waist-high slop as it does in overhead juice and will help you get the most out of your everyday sessions. For more advanced surfers we recommend you ride this board around your height or 1¹″ below.

Designed by Dan Mann, and perhaps the most versatile board in the Firewire quiver to date, the DOMINATOR combines a full outline with a thick foil from nose to tail and a 5/4/3 fin configuration. Dan moved the wide point back to reduce the nose profile, maintaining all of the speed but with none of the top turn drawbacks of retro nose outlines. Built with the flex characteristics and lightweight of FUTURE SHAPES TECHNOLOGY, the DOMINATOR paddles like it’s turbo charged and does not track like heavier PU boards with similar dimensions. Take Charge! Available in both FST and Timber Tek construction.

The Special T breaks away from the high performance longboards that Firewire has offered using surfer Taylor Jensen’s nameDann Mann explains “Despite his preference for high performance longboarding, Taylor is an accomplished noserider so he wanted his Firewire models to include a design more suited to traditional longboarding. I’ve personally always enjoyed the stylish nature of the ‘old school’ and in particular, riding an original Phil Edwards board that my dad has”.

Dan continued, “After a ton of input from Taylor combined with my own experience, we developed The Special T. The rails have a soft 50/50 curve, along with a scoop nose concave and extra tail flip. We also relaxed the nose entry rocker to enhance tip riding, allowing riders maximum glide and trim with ease.”  Great in waves 3-6 ft.

Available Tech: TimberTek – The combination of a lightweight EPS core, sustainably-grown Paulownia wood deck skins, Firewire’s proprietary parabolic rail construction, and an Entropy bio-resin hot coat yield an extremely lightweight, durable surfboard with ALL of the high performance flex characteristics of Firewire’s existing technologies.

The Submoon is the ultimate FUNshape. Designer Nev Hyman explains: “We combined a contemporary rocker and concaves and even thickness distribution with a quirky FUNshape outline that encourages a more vertical shortboard approach to the traditional longboard style of surfing. The outline has generous curve between your feet, which encourages the board to get on rail and TURN! The narrower moon tail provides bite, drive and direction, and the snub nose carries area forward for a bit of tip hang-cheater five FUN.”  Ideal for waves 2-6 ft.
